What Does the Internet Mean to Traditional TV Cable Subscriptions?

What Does the Internet Mean to Traditional TV Cable Subscriptions?

The Internet as most of us know it is changing the way we do things. The Internet has replaced or enhanced the experiences the many things we do. The Internet continues to have amazing impacts on almost every facet of our lives. With the Internet, we have access to new ideas, more information, conveniently, we shop online without having to get in our cars, wait in traffic, and wait some more to make our transaction; the internet allows us to gain access to a whole new world of communities. It has grown and evolved to influence how we interact, how we conduct business, how we learn, and how we proceed day to day.  There are unlimited possibilities.

Apple has plan for a limited, low-cost streaming service.  Apple has been talking to a number of leading television groups to offer an internet-based TV service for its devices like iPhone, iPad and Apple TV set-top box, according to people briefed on the company’s plans.

The service date is expected to be announced later this year (2015); the offer will have fewer channels and cheaper than what is offered in a typical cable subscription, said the people, who discussed the incomplete plans on the condition of anonymity. The potential plan includes networks owned by the television groups Disney, Fox, CBS, and Discover. Networks like ABC, CBS and Fox, along with a lineup of other cable networks, such as ESPN and Discovery Channel could include in the proposed plan.

The monthly price for the service remains unclear; the rate for a monthly subscription could be in the range of $20 to $25. It is also speculated it would be in the $30 range. The final price will most likely depend on the networks streamed and negotiations with television groups.

Apple is on the verge of something good as many will choose a slimmer bundle of television channels over an internet connection.  That can spell disruption to traditional TV cable subscriptions. Apple has done it before with record labels for the iTunes Store when it negotiated to sell songs one track at a time, as opposed to forcing consumers to buy complete albums.
