PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Penguins are continually refining their game with the playoffs approaching. Philipp Grubauer Jersey . They looked ready Monday night. Marc-Andre Fleury robbed former Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson with a sparkling third-period glove save and James Neal scored at 3:05 of overtime, giving the Penguins a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators 2-1. "I just tried to get my leg, my glove over there and try to stop it," Fleury said. "I was glad it went in my glove." Neal netted his 18th of the season and his first goal in nine games for the Penguins, who won for the 16th time in 17 home games and are now 23-4 at Consol Energy Center. Pittsburgh also avoided back-to-back regulation losses for the first time since dropping three straight in early November. "When you dont score you sometimes try to pick corners and be a little too cute," Neal said. "I was able to find one tonight. It was a good feeling." Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson stopped Robert Bortuzzo from the slot in overtime, but the rebound popped out to Neal, who dragged the puck around a Senators defender before dumping a shot past an out-of-position Anderson and into an empty net. "I was trying to be patient with the puck and wait for an opening," Neal said. "I knew their D-man was going to go down and Anderson was kind of far out when (Bortuzzo) got the puck to the net." Ottawas Stephane Da Costa and Pittsburghs Brian Gibbons scored in the first period. Ottawas best chance to take the lead in regulation came midway through the third period, but Fleury robbed Karlsson with a dazzling glove save. Fleury, while pushing from post to post, reached high above the cross bar, snagging the fluttering wrist shot from Karlsson, who had a partially wide open net to shoot at. "I dont know if theres a save that beats it," Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma said. "It was going high to the right corner and he had to get up there and get it. "It was an open cage, he pushes over, and gets the glove up to make the save. I hope we see this one over and over again." Karlsson might see it in his sleep. The Senators leading scorer fell to the ice in astonishment after Fleurys stop. "I just smiled at him," Karlsson said. "Theres nothing I can really say. He knows he made a good save and unfortunately Im going to be on the highlights for quite some time with that one." Fleury stopped 24 shots for his league-leading 30th win of the season, while Anderson turned aside 46 shots for the hard-luck loss. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, who leads the NHL with 75 points, was held without a point and hasnt scored a goal in five games, his longest drought since a seven-game slump earlier this season. "Hes 100 per cent," Bylsma said. "He was our best player on both sides of the puck and I thought he played an excellent game regardless of whether he got a point or not." The Penguins, who lead the Eastern Conference with 80 points, went 6-3-1 their previous 10 games, looking dominant during impressive wins against Montreal and Los Angeles but struggling in losses against Edmonton, Florida, Dallas, and Phoenix, all teams out of playoff contention. The Senators handed the Penguins arguably their worst loss of the season Dec. 23 in Ottawa, shutting them out 5-0 in a physical contest that saw Pittsburgh forward Pascal Dupuis tear his anterior cruciate ligament on a hit from Marc Methot. Ottawa, in the mix for an Eastern Conference wild-card spot, allowed three goals in the final 5:58 during a 6-3 loss at Toronto on Saturday, the second time in four games the Senators allowed six goals. The improved, hardened defensive effort Monday was certainly enough to help the Senators a win but they couldnt take advantage of their opportunities. "We played hard," Anderson said. "We gave ourselves the opportunity to be there. Just unfortunate we didnt come out with two points." Ottawa broke through at 5:56 of the first period, Da Costa scoring his third of the season after he lifted a short-side wrist shot over Fleurys shoulder from the top of the crease. Ottawas Zack Smith took a boarding call 29 seconds later and the leagues top power-play unit capitalized with the man advantage winding down, tying the game after Gibbons tipped Olli Maattas shot from the point past Anderson. That was all until Neals goal in the overtime won it for Pittsburgh. NOTES: Penguins D Kris Letang, who leads the team defensively with 10 goals, missed his third straight game with an undisclosed illness. ... Penguins F Taylor Pyatt left with a lower body injury after the games first shift. ... Pittsburgh is 14-1 at home when it registers at least one power-play goal. The Penguins penalty kill is perfect in a season-high nine straight home games dating back to Dec. 19. ... Ottawa concludes a three-game road trip Tuesday at St. Louis, while Pittsburgh visits Buffalo on Wednesday. ... Ottawa D Chris Phillips missed his fourth straight game with a lower body injury, while Matt Kassian and Joe Corvo also sat out for the Senators. Forwards Andrew Ebbett and Jayson Megna were healthy scratches for Pittsburgh. Devante Smith-Pelly Jersey . -- The Detroit Lions made it crystal clear to Golden Tate that he was their top target in free agency. Lucas Johansen Jersey .A. Happ? Happs seven wins are second on the staff to Mark Buehrles 10. Win-loss record is an antiquated stat, sure, but win total is generally an indication of a pitchers ability to work deep into games, enough to be personally affected by the result.KANSAS CITY, Mo. - There was a moment early in the fourth quarter Sunday that all the stars were aligned for the Kansas City Chiefs. They were handling business against San Diego, and two other games transpiring elsewhere were going exactly as they needed. In the end, the Chiefs were the only ones who held on.Kansas City beat the Chargers 19-7 to eliminate them from playoff contention, but was knocked out itself when Baltimore rallied past Cleveland and Houston did the same against Jacksonville. Were all disappointed not to make the playoffs, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said. I think the team, the coaching staff realizes we had the opportunity and we just didnt get it done.Kansas City (9-7) squandered numerous chances in losses to Denver, Arizona and San Francisco, any of which would have gotten the Chiefs into the playoffs for the second straight year.We were 7-3 at one point, sort of got on a slide at the back end of the season that was uncharacteristic of us as a team, said Chase Daniel, who started Sunday for injured quarterback Alex Smith. But at the same time, you end the season on a high note, with a victory. There were other high notes, too. Cairo Santos kicked four field goals to cap a solid rookie season, and Daniel played relatively error free while Smith sat out with a lacerated spleen. Then there was Justin Houston, who had four sacks to finish with 22 on the season, breaking the franchise record set by Derrick Thomas in 1990. Houston had a few minutes left to try to get the NFL record of 22 1/2 set by Michael Strahan in 2001, but mostly fell into pass coverage.Im still heartbroken about not going to the playoffs. Thats what I set my goals on, Houston said. The individual records, itll mean something when Im done playing. Theres nothing more important than putting the ring on.The Chargers (9-7) never gave themselves much of a chance in a game they need to win to reach the playoffs, falling to their AFC West rival for the second time this season.Nick Novak missed a 52-yard field goal attempt late in the third quarter. Midway through the fourth, a touchdown pass to Eddie Royal was overturned by a video review when the ball appeared to skip off the turf — San Diego went for it onn fourth down and Philip Rivers threw incomplete. Custom Washington Capitals Jerseys. Then with about 4 minutes left, Donald Brown was stuffed on fourth-and-1 at the Chiefs 20.Rivers was intercepted for a second time in the closing seconds of the game.Thats the most disappointing thing. For everything that was at stake and for us to play we did, Chargers coach Mike McCoy said. Im just very disappointed.Rivers finished with 291 yards passing to go over 4,000 in a season for the sixth time, though he also threw two interceptions. Branden Oliver ran for 71 yards and a touchdown. We fought like crazy, Rivers said. Theres soon to be 20 teams that will be sitting in our same position, and theyre disappointed to not be moving on. But we fought to the end. We won nine football games and fell one short of getting ourselves a 17th game.INJURY WOES: The Chargers began the game without running back Ryan Mathews, wide receiver Keenan Allen and centre Chris Watt. They ended it without right tackle D.J. Fluker, cornerback Shareece Wright, wide receiver Eddie Royal and safety Marcus Gilchrist due to injuries.SANTOS SHINES: Not only did Santos match the franchise rookie record of 25 field goals in a season set by Ryan Succop, the kicker he beat out for the job in training camp, he also passed Jan Steneruds rookie record of 112 points. Im happy with him and the progress hes made, Reid said, but we also have to do better in the red zone.CHARLES HITS 1,000: Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles only ran for 53 yards, but he still passed 1,000 for the fifth time. That includes three straight since he tore his ACL.SACK CITY: Houston may have had four sacks, but the rest of the Chiefs added three more to the tally. There were other guys who were getting pressure, Chargers offensive lineman Chad Rinehart said. It was a team effort and he was the guy out there who was getting the finished product.SEASON SWEEP: The Chiefs wrapped up their first back-to-back winning seasons since 2005-06 by sweeping the Chargers for the first time since 2003. They beat us twice this year, Rivers said, so they were the better team. Head-to-head, they beat us both times.___Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL  href="http://www.thenflfansmall.com/">NFL Jerseys Wholesale Disocunt Football Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping China NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys 2020 Wholesale NFL Gear Discount NFL Jerseys ' ' '
